SELF AND HEALTH
THE SQUATTER

In the past
it was Reader’s Digest Health manuals;
now
it’s the internet
defecating
in your brain.
The squatter
won’t vacate, and
even if it does, it's
scarred with
‘Deathly messages’
graffiti scrawled
within the mind.
The more I forget,
the more it reminds me –
like
the loss of
friends
forever mourned.

PANIC
Sitting on the toilet, waiting
for Tyche, shaking sounds of
thoughts vibrate. Fresh light,
frantic, newly formed,
illuminates acidic harm.
Brow sweat vapour dampens time,
damning loathing with regret.
Paint fume fears forgive
like bats flapping in volcanic
ash. Internet illusions irk
like itching souvenirs.
Evian’s my nemesis.

SEARCHING

I am unable to perform CBT on
rain, or undertake Colour Therapy on Nimbrostratus clouds, so I
will continue disappointing. Perhaps dissecting conversations, and over-thinking like a fearful partner, will assist me. It’s easy for you who has never
failed. I peel apart like a sunburnt orange, striving to
feel better, but feeling worse, and
disintegrating as quickly as my.....
....Contentment is like a future not yet written
down. Each time I believe I’ve found it, it leaves
without me. I drafted my concerns whilst eating your
dark chocolate. The question mark is my soul, waiting for the
answers.

EVERY DAWN CLEARS THE NIGHT BEFORE
I overtake you in the street, and lead
in a race you’re not even competing
in. It’s my silent pleasure, daily need
to win at something before each meeting
begins. I hear your feet speed up, I
quicken in response. Victory is mine
I silently internalise. You jog on by.
I fear you’ve got your own race too, you swine.
If I don’t win then my day will disperse
across weeks. All my promotions will invert.
I run, and run, as I have to be first.
Success is my tissue that wipes away hurt.
